This peanut butter yogurt bowl with apples is a delicious breakfast, snack or even dessert! Topped with your favorite granola and a drizzle of honey, it’s protein packed and takes 5 minutes to make!
Why make a yogurt bowl?
I eat a lot (A LOT) of yogurt bowls in my life….I’m averaging eating yogurt at least once a day! I eat them for breakfast, snack or dessert. They range from simple yogurt and fruit to elaborate caramelized banana yogurt bowls, whatever I have the creativity for! So I thought I’d start a new section of my blog that’s all about the yogurt bowls!
It doesn’t take much to make a yogurt bowl taste good, simply yogurt, granola and fruit are a delicious combination. But sometimes you wanna switch it up, and if you’re like me, you need a little inspiration to get out of eating the same thing every day. Below I’ll lay out how I make this super easy peanut butter yogurt bowl, what brands I love, the ratios, etc!
Yogurt Bowl Basics
The beauty of the yogurt bowl is that you can customize it however you want! If you have a favorite yogurt, or granola, by all means use them! Here are my favorite brands and types of ingredients that I typically put in my yogurt bowls:
Greek Yogurt–I always use nonfat plain greek yogurt as a base for all of my yogurt bowls. The protein content is higher and you control the sweetness and fat levels depending on what you add. I will say, not all nonfat plain greek yogurts are created equally, some are, frankly put, gross!
My go-to brands are Chobani Nonfat Plain, Siggi’s Icelandic Skyr Nonfat Vanilla (consider skyr and greek yogurt to be cousins) and Oikos Triple Zero Nonfat Vanilla. You may obviously use yogurts that have a higher fat content for some more flavor and balance if you prefer. My absolute favorite is Simply Nature Greek Vanilla Bean Whole Milk Yogurt found at Aldi!
Peanut Butter—peanut butter is a staple in my house for sure. My absolute favorite brand is Big Spoon Roasters, they are unmatched in my opinion!
Granola—honestly lots of granola brands are great, and as we make more yogurt bowls together I will recommend different flavors and brands for different flavor profiles. But for now, some of my favorites to have on hand are Love Crunch Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola, Purely Elizabeth Organic Original Ancient Grain Granola and Cascadian Farm Organic Blueberry Vanilla Granola!
Honey—I’m no honey expert, I’m fact, if anyone reading this has a recommendation for honey that they just can’t live without, please message me about it! I just go for my regular grocery store’s decent honey, unless my yogurt bowl requires hot honey, and sometimes it does (think peaches, cinnamon and hot honey YUM) that’s about it.
I have been wanting to explore with whipped honey…again if you have recommendations do share!
Fruit—my only fruit recommendations are don’t hold back! Get fresh fruit, get frozen fruit, get tropical fruit or berries! I’ve done it all and they’re all glorious. And we’ll get creative together too…as I mentioned, sometimes we’ll use bananas, sometimes we’ll take an extra 5 minutes and caramelize them!
How to make this Peanut Butter Yogurt Bowl
Step 1: fill your bowl with about 1-1 ½ cups of your yogurt of choice
Step 2: mix in roughly 2 Tbsp of peanut butter until the yogurt is smooth and the peanut butter has been fully mixed in
Step 3: top the peanut butter yogurt with about ¼ cup of your granola of choice
Step 4: optionally, drizzle a bit of honey depending on which yogurt you used (if it’s a less sweet yogurt, you may want a bit of honey, the choice is yours!)
Step 5: chop up your favorite apple, I always use Honeycrisp for this (a worthy splurge), and arrange the apples how you prefer (in or out of the bowl).
Dip the apples in the peanut butter yogurt, making sure to get some granola in each bite for an added crunch and enjoy this delicious and fulfilling yogurt bowl!
